Technical Project Manager

Job Summary

The Technical Project Manager will oversee large-scale IT infrastructure projects, ensuring the successful delivery of secure, scalable, and compliant systems for the NHS and other healthcare organizations. This role requires a blend of strong technical knowledge in IT infrastructure (networks, servers, data centres, cloud, and security) and project management expertise. The ideal candidate will be familiar with NHS operational standards and healthcare IT regulations, capable of leading projects that impact clinical environments, data security, and overall system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead end-to-end IT infrastructure projects, including the planning, implementation, and deployment of networks, data centres, cloud solutions, and other critical healthcare IT systems.
  • Work closely with NHS Trusts, IT teams, clinicians, and third-party vendors to align infrastructure projects with NHS standards, operational goals, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring all deliverables meet NHS guidelines and healthcare IT best practices.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of IT projects, including server migrations, network upgrades, hardware installations, and disaster recovery solutions, with a focus on high availability and redundancy.
  • Ensure compliance with NHS Digital standards, data protection (GDPR), and cybersecurity protocols to maintain patient confidentiality and system security.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate IT infrastructure with clinical software, EPR systems, and other healthcare applications.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to minimize downtime or disruption to critical healthcare operations during project deployment phases.
  • Provide clear communication to NHS stakeholders, IT teams, and healthcare administrators regarding project status, challenges, and solutions.
  • Implement robust change management strategies to ensure a smooth transition to new systems and minimize operational impact on healthcare services.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all IT infrastructure projects, including technical specifications, network diagrams, security protocols, and compliance reports.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience managing IT infrastructure projects within the healthcare industry, ideally with a focus on the NHS or similar healthcare settings.
  • Deep technical understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks (LAN/WAN), servers, virtualization, storage, cloud computing (AWS, Azure), and cybersecurity.
  • Proficiency in managing healthcare IT systems, ensuring data security, system redundancy, and compliance with NHS Digital and GDPR standards.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-specific IT challenges, such as maintaining system availability for 24/7 clinical environments and securing sensitive patient data.
  • Proven experience with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and tools (JIRA, MS Project, Trello) to effectively lead IT infrastructure projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders across NHS Trusts, clinical teams, and IT staff.
  • Demonstrated experience managing third-party vendors and contractors, ensuring their deliverables align with project goals and healthcare requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent IT projects in a fast-paced healthcare environment, balancing priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of healthcare IT interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and experience integrating infrastructure with clinical systems (e.g., EPR, PACS).
